Kips Bay

I.M.Pei’s 1960’s Kips Bay complex offers vibrant city views beyond the large windowed façade. The challenge in redesigning this pied a terre was to utilize the backdrop of the city while creating a warm, intimate interior. A new kitchen was reconfigured and opened to the dining area. Materials were selected to reflect and absorb the light as the sun position changes with the passage of the day. Matte resin countertops glow, deep cherry stained woods and glass tiles were installed horizontally to expand the perception of the space and a monochromatic color scheme allows the city to become an element in the interior.
